If you have been to downtown Conway you might have seen the small park right beside the train tracks! Simon Park is adjacent to City hall at the corner of front and Main Streets.
Simon Park was named in honor of the Simon Family who owned and operated Simon’s Grocery and Bakery on front street for over 52 years. According to a sign in the park George, Fritz and the rest of the family help make downtown what it is today! Store sat across from what the park is in the American Management building! Any childs favorite part of shopping was getting a smily face cookie from the bakery. Later the baker opened up his own store known as Ed’s Bakery! They still sell those iconic smiley cookies!
Simon Park is home to the Kris Allen Stage. The covered band shelter was named after the Conway Native who won American Idol in 2009.
You can also find park benches, water spray fountain, and a train caboose.
The park is in full use during the annual Toad Suck Daze Festival in May.
Throughout the year there are many other numerous events hosted at Simon Park!
In the past, many local artists have preformed on the stage including Adam Hambrick, Todd Agnew, Jamey Johnson, and Shawn McDonald.
Every year the Conway Symphony Orchestra hosts a free “Concert in the Park” event for the community!
Whether you are attending an event or visting for the afternoon, Simon Park is a nice place to visit!
I was just there last weekend and I’d never really stopped to notice the beauty and history all around downtown Conway.
